This is a very common debate. Let's get loads of ideas on this. Note: we are talking about the OS, not the actual company Keep all comments G rated Here's my view of Mac OS:I haven't used the Mac OS that much. Only at computer stores and I suppose iPod Touchs etc count too. If so, here's my take on a bit of the computer OS and the iPod iOS. The Mac computer OS is ok I guess. I grew up with Windows so it does seem very new till me still. I like the what you could call bottom home menu. It's quite cool the way it's set out. I customised my computer to look a bit like that It seems ok opening things. The only problem I find is the Minimize, Expand Screen and shut screen buttons. I seem to muddle them up (can't remember if they are all in different positions to Windows anyway....). The iPod iOS is pretty good too. It looks nice and has a good feel. The keyboard is easy to use (ish) and in general it looks fairly nice. Only problem is that hackers can add backgrounds to iPod touches 2 but Apple can't? That's not cool! The hackers give us so much and Apple give us so little! Apple would be bigger than all these other phone software makers if it let us do more with our Apple Gear! Windows: Windows I've used for ever (my whole life.) I like all the add-ons, the updates to keep you up to date. Makes me feel as if I'm never behind in the capabilities of the OS. You can put Windows OS on any computer brands (unlike Apple where you can only put it on there computers unless you get a hack). A slight down side to Windows is all the viruses At least we have Anti-Virus software and loads of it I can't really say much more I like windows because I grew up with it. I've used it my whole life. It works for me fine and I like it a lot. Linux:I like Linux a bit but haven't used it enough to write anything about it. I have only used Puppy Linux out of all the Linux's.

I hate it when people say: "Macs are better because they don't get viruses like Windows computers." That is based on one thing. Wow, such a very detailed opinion. Then again, that comes from small-minded people, so don't expect too much.

Hes a Macintosh homer, loves it too much.... but i was laughing so hard at him when that happened. I love my windows 7 never have an issue with it... ive used Ubuntu for about a year i love it, just not any good graphics software on it :\ Mac is a joke. Too locked down for me.

I agree. Windows 7 is my favourite, with XP chugging in second. I've tried Mac OS. It looks neat, don't get me wrong, but after using Windows since the age of 7, it's only normal for me to stick with it. I've never tried any Linux OS, so I won't give an opinion on that, but I hear it's good.

Used Windows since I got my first computer when I was four and loved Windows ever since.

Along with all the intelligent people. This is funny, because this seems like quite the ignorant comment to me. Like only intelligent people use PC's? I've used PC's for a majority of my computing life, but I prefer OS X worlds over Windows. I've used Macs for years, I've never had any issues with them. They have a much nicer interface, and like Linux, they are able to run the latest operating system for a very long time. We've had our iMac since 2006, and it's running the latest os release, Snow Leopard 10.6.6, hundreds of times faster than my dads brand new 800 dollar W7 machine. (Well we did upgrade the Mac's ram to 2.5gb) Also I've never experienced an app crash with an Intel iMac. My old iBook had a few bugs, but you cant blame the OS, PowerPC's arent great. Mac vs PC Debates are wasteful threads. It really shows the ignorance in people, such as "Omg, everyone who loves a mac thinks they are better". Yeah, but using that logic, so do people who love PC's. And I think Dylan proved that point. I think when it comes down to it, people need to accept that these are just operating systems. Mere lines of code that run other lines of code. Both Macs and PC's have their ups and downs, but dont be a dickhead and start bragging and trying to act all high and mighty because your trying to act cool. Because anyone who is actually intelligent picks that up, and they wont think kindly of it. Besides until you own a Mac, you can't judge it. Giving it a few tries at Best Buy or whatever doesnt cut it. Because when you actually own a Mac, you can really appreciate what it has too offer. You'll notice that certain design programs like Photoshop and other Adobe products will run faster and crash less. Why? Adobe originally developed programs for Mac years before they started on Windows. You'll notice that all websites you visit look prettier. Why? All text is anti-aliased. I could go on for hours, but my class ends soon. Buy a mac, use it. Then tell me how you like it. Otherwise your just making yourself look stupid.

I have owned a few Windows computers (XP and Win7), two Linux computers (one server using CentOS and a desktop running Ubuntu) and a few Mac computers. So I am by no means a fan boy of any of these OS's. So you can be sure when I tear your arguments and opinions apart its not because I'm a fan-boy. Here's my view of Mac OS:I haven't used the Mac OS that much. Only at computer stores and I suppose iPod Touchs etc count too. If so, here's my take on a bit of the computer OS and the iPod iOS. I have only used Puppy Linux out of all the Linux's. "The only problem I find is the Minimize, Expand Screen and shut screen buttons." - Minimize, Expand Screen and Shut Screen buttons are in exactly the same place as in Windows. "Apple would be bigger than all these other phone software makers" - Apple owns more than 50% of the market share. it IS bigger than all other phone software providers put together. "I like all the add-ons, the updates to keep you up to date. Makes me feel as if I'm never behind in the capabilities of the OS." - If you like updates get Linux, it updates almost hourly. Also Mac computers update on a weekly basis, same as Windows. "You can put Windows OS on any computer brands" - This is not true. You can't install Windows on an iPhone. You can't install it on your Xbox, your PS3, your game boy, your calculator. All these things are computers. And all the above mentioned computers can have Linux installed on them. If you like install versatility, get Linux. "A slight down side to Windows is all the viruses At least we have Anti-Virus software and loads of it" - Mac and Linux computers also get viruses. Along with all the intelligent people. Steve Jobs has an IQ of 160 according to the Standford-Binet standardised intelligence test. Also when you think about this comment it makes no sense. There no grey area, what about people like me who have a Mac laptop and a Windows desktop? Does that mean that I am 50% of the time intelligent? I have heard it said there are two kinds of people: Those who make grand sweeping statements, and those who are right. Along with all the intelligent people. This is funny, because this seems like quite the ignorant comment to me. Like only intelligent people use PC's? I've used PC's for a majority of my computing life, but I prefer OS X worlds over Windows. I've used Macs for years, I've never had any issues with them. Otherwise your just making yourself look stupid." - Mac computers are very expensive, most students don't have to money to compete with cheap Windows boxes. I think you should change this too: If you want to criticize Mac buy a mac, use it. Then tell me how you like it. Otherwise your just making yourself look stupid. "You'll notice that all websites you visit look prettier. Why? All text is anti-aliased. I could go on for hours, but my class ends soon." - The text anti-aliasing on websites is handled by the browser. Its Safari that has great anti-aliasing, not Mac in general. "You'll notice that certain design programs like Photoshop and other Adobe products will run faster and crash less. Why? Adobe originally developed programs for Mac years before they started on Windows." - Adobe is built and developed for Mac computers and then ported too Windows. Its a well know paradigm that designers use Mac, Programmers use Linux and Everyone else uses Windows.

Its not just Safari, all browsers have anti-aliased text for both my imac, and my friends macbook. I am currently looking at this page on my Macbook, and my Win7 desktop in Opera firefox and chrome. The text looks exactly the same on both, This is because all modern browsers have anti-aliasing.

Really? Because Im on my PC right now and text isnt anti-aliased.. maybe its a setting I turned off somehow? Or maybe because the laptop's gpu is weak, the browser turns off anti-aliasing for performance?

Are you sure it isn't your PCs screen?

Haha I see you and Colin completely missed my point from my comment. Read my quote in Nick's post, then what Nick posted, and then my reply. In any of them, do you see me being one-sided saying whoever uses this is smarter than whoever uses the other? No I didn't think so.
It wasn't to state that people who use Windows are the better people, I was saying people who believe Macs can get viruses too are smart people.
And Xcessive, towards the end of your post, you state that all designers use Macs, well not everyone can afford the ridiculously high prices of them and Windows 7 runs Photoshop just fine for me.

But that makes sense as I was rushed and caught this thread in the last few minutes of class Yeaaaah I did misread that, my bad. But tl;dr People are ridiculous when they get into heated mac vs pc debates. Personal opinion doesnt make one better than the other. That is why I generally dislike these threads, because some people can get a little crazy. I've seen it many times.

How did I misread? You were basically saying I was bias when I was actually trying to create a remark against bias people who are so loved up with their Macs and say they never get viruses.
