Im to the point in frustration where i want to 100% drop support for that POS browser.
what do you guys think?

The majority of people use it so you have to support it. Microsoft is a POS, but it's a big POS that isn't going away anytime soon.

Actually I've had to modify my stylesheet for my portfolio for my coursework to get it to work in Chrome, Firefox and IE.

It's in BETA, things are likely to screw up. Wait until a stable release is provided.

Your best bet, is to drop support for any version of IE because if you have to modify your code to work with a browser, it's not worth your time because it doesn't support the web standards.
IE9 fixes all that up, but it still doesn't completely support it.
One thing you could do is write a small PHP script to retrieve the useragent and display a message, if it's IE, that says that the website isn't compatible and that they'll have to download another browser.
