Loves how you use the 'rivals' hosting xD Ehhm, you are Xcess should partner, you could create a wizz! Quite possibly, it would be pretty hard to merge two image hosts though You, coding, Colin getting the drinks design You'd obviously have to build with mirrorimg, because if you closed that my life would end But I guess it would be nice for you to have a rival on this forum xD

competition is what makes a company/website grow (:
heres a lame example: WCW vs WWF - If it wasn't for this "ratings" war to see who the best wrestling company is WWF (now WWE) wouldn't be anywhere near as large as they are now.

I have been wanting to just shut off uploads on mirrorimg and start a new host (while leaving all the old images as accessible on mirrorimg), or at least completely overhauling the old system and having the site offline for a few days, possibly loosing some images (which I deemed unacceptable).

Can't you make a copy? Not without losing the directory structure, hence invalidating the links of everyone's images. However I am starting to think htacess might work for most cases. The main problem is that mirrorimg doesn't pay for itself since adsense doesn't give payment till you exceed $150 earnings; hence I can't get a payment to pay the monthly VPS rates. So I am trying to think of ways to generate more income with better ad placement.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but if the images are stored in a database, and you wanted to move them into a new structure of a database, couldn't you make a new database, then make a custom php script that would convert the old records to the new ones, and within the script make sure the urls are the same. I am probably 100% off, but I'm feeling smart

I always wondered how image hosts made money, considering that most of the time, you're using their service, it's to host an image to display on another page.

You could do things like ad-free, or premium membership options.

echnaret: I have a big ad right next to the upload button. @nick: The image are actually stored in the file system. If there were stored in a database I could do something similar to that and have a "view.php" page that takes an image ID and assembles the image taking it as a normal HTTP request. However it would be impossible with what I have currently and not break urls.

Ah, that'd be tough. Maybe you could host the old images in a directory that no new images would be uploaded into. But yeah, that's kind of a tough one to decide on what to do

I'm not really familiar with your website, but .htaccess might be able to help a bit. What is your current file [or perhaps more importantly, url] structure?

xcessive: instead of Google ads you should let people buy the advertising space. Forumpromotion.net is a site where they buy ad spaces regularly in the marketplace board.

Ryan never owned it. I founded it, he bought the domain and programmed for it. He then proceeded to use the name for other projects, and there wasn't much I could do about it. If I need proof, I've got the original files with the creation dates. Plus I can dig up the posts on Eyeon Studio about if I need to.
Plus, Luke knows I had Cyanima waaaaay before we met Ryan.
