No, I'm not talking about the iPad. I'm talking about things like these: I haven't seen any recently, though, and it seems like the term "tablet" has been reclaimed by the iPad and similar new technologies. Anyone know what happened to the old tablet PCs, and why they disappeared?

The bigger question is 'What happened to netbooks?' To answer your question, new tables are the same thing, just with the keyboard part of the screen

The bigger question is 'What happened to netbooks?' Most likely, people saw them running the same operating system that ran on their much more powerful home computers, and were frustrated by how much they were under performing, comparatively. I'm pretty sure no one right now is going to expect their iPads to perform just as well as their home computers, just because the interface is so different. Overall, netbooks just seem slow to me. It doesn't seem like there is a huge demand for slow computers nowadays. To answer your question, new tables are the same thing, just with the keyboard part of the screen Sort of. First, tablet PCs used a stylus, where as today's tablets just use your fingers. Second, the tablet PC in the picture probably ran Windows XP and programs. The tablets today run [insert smartphone OS of your choice here] and applications. I'm not saying that either change is bad. I'm just saying that it's different, and for different purposes.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer comes in similar form to that, but I guess that and Wacom tablets are the closest you're going to get to that in the modern world of technology. Answer: iPhone/iPod/iPads Answer 2: The future. If iPhones, iPods and iPads are the future, kill me now.

If iPhones, iPods and iPads are the future, kill me now. That's pretty much my current thoughts on the matter.

I like Apple products xD They sure are nice. To me, they are boring. iThis, iThat. They are so imaginative with the names, it amuses me to no end. If anything, to me, they sound childish, and the people there sound like they don't have an imagination at all.

From phones, to full on desktops they are all built great. I just got my first mac a couple of weeks ago. It is the MacBook Pro 15 inch. The chassis is drilled out of a single block of aluminum and the whole laptop is just under an inch thick. It is way nicer than any pc laptop Ive ever used as far as quality goes.

They fucking should be great build quality for the price you pay!
And just because you've never had a good quality PC, doesn't mean they don't exist. You can get them. Whilst talking about aluminium, my phone is made in a unibody design.
