It will become a human now wont it? Did you even read what I said. And also no, not usually. More than 60% of embryos are aborted in the first few days. So its more likely that it WONT become a human being. Also by that logic, a sperm cell "will become a human" thus you are still a mass murderer on a scale worse than Hitler - refer to above post.

It WAS going to become a human being! Even so, you logic still condemns you to committing genocide on an almost hourly basis.

This is why I was going to watch this thread. So your OK with yourself committing mass murder, but a struggling teenage mother is not allowed to commit a single "murder".

You make these threads awkward and hard to discuss.

Thank you Luke. Now does anyone want to contribute to this discussion?

Xcessive is spot on. During the time most abortions happen, the 'human being' is still in its embryo stage, thus not really a human being. He is also right on the fact that millions of our sperm cells are killed everyday, and others replace them. It's nature, and that's how it will work.
So Ooop, if you are okay with committing mass murder on those tiny living cells in your body, then why shouldn't a struggling teenager who doesn't want a baby, be able to have an abortion?

I would. I agree with you xcessive. I never really thought of it that way. Probably should have looked more into the topic before started in a debate.
However something that I think is also necessary to bring up is the age of the aborted fetus. If it doesnt have developed organs and isnt technically alive, I dont think it's all that terrible. But still, I kind of have mixed feelings about it. It is killing the beginning of a child, but if it's not wanted, chances are it's not going to have a pleasant childhood if born. The thing about abortions is, Its not like the fetus' are being thrown out, we do use the fetus to further study stem cell research, as well has helping patients via stem cell research.
I'm going to read more into this.

The thing about abortions is, Its not like the fetus' are being thrown out, we do use the fetus to further study stem cell research, as well has helping patients via stem cell research. I'm going to read more into this. Given that you are probably an early/mid teenager this is a fairly wise assessment. Of course I don't actually know your age, I'm just guessing based on averages. I highly recommend that you DO read into this as it is not only interesting, it is an integral and important theological and ontological question. You bought up the question: when does a foetus become a child? This is a completely unanswerable question and at this point is basically arbitrary. I would say that it is up until the point that the child is no longer entirely reliant on its mother. ie. 28 weeks old, when a foetus can be prematurely born and still survive. Up until this point, it is no more than a biological extension of the mother, and I say that - given that this is so - a mother should have as much control over her unborn foetus as she has over any other part of her body. Her arm or leg for example. This is a good analogy I think, and I shall explain why. Let us consider an example, if one sustains a life threating infection to a limb, usually it needs to be amputated. No-one debates the need for this. I feel this is a good comparison to make as most abortions occur not out of malice or callousness but out of necessity . The mother for example may die if she has the child. This also highlights another important considering. Whos life is more valuable, the mother or the foetus? A not uncommon situation for a mother is this: having a child will almost certainly kill, or seriously harm her due to age, health, defects etc. So, in this situation abortion will cause "murder" of the foetus, but not aborting will be "murder" of the mother. What to do? I could go on for hours discussing this topic, but I feel this is enough (for now) to keep the discussion interesting.

It's not alive the moment you kill it, but it would have been a human being. He could've had a family, a job, a home, a car, but all that was taken away because a 1 choice.
