A Dark skin takes style and skill to make it look cool, and then it just turns into a Light skin... I like light skins with dark influences... I think you make a really good point. Dark skins are very difficult, unless you have some serious skill in Photoshop. It also depends on the colors you use, because there is a point where you can take dark and make it too dark. It's definitely difficult to balance out the look of the skin, and the actual colors used throughout the forum.
On the other side, light skins usually have a much more clean look. Personally, I love lighter skins compared to darker ones. I think that a mixture of green, gray, and white make a really great balance if you make it work. However, I have seen some dark skins throughout Proboards that have looked amazing but it'll need to be complex to look good. Simplicity in darker skins never seem to impress (prove me wrong?). People make text hard to read in dark skins usually :/

Yeah, they do.. I'm not sure why. Most dark skins usually have a black/gray background for their thread replies. Unfortunately, you have to choose a really good grey tone in order to make the skin look decent. White text doesn't really look good on darker skins, anyone else feel this way?

White and black looks too noob.

It depends on the gradients for me I could care less as long as you have pretty smooth gradients.

I'm often online late at night, in which case darker skins are easier on my eyes.
It does seem like it's easier (for me, anyway, though I'm not much of a skinner) to make a simple-looking skin with a light color scheme.
I also agree that white text with darker skins doesn't look that hot.

I prefer dark, but I usually stick to light designs because they're more commonly used.
Also, dark designs are extremely hard to balance. You don't want them feeling too flat or monotone. You have to mix them up a little to keep them interesting. Light designs can be flat, mostly because they are more easily passed off as minimalist. =p

The problem with Dark Skins is that you can't see them well on my screen. You can't be on an angle otherwise it's like a mirror or you can't read text.
