What is the ideal size for a signature? People make them in all sorts of sizes.
I would say 450x150px is a good size.

I switch it up every once in a while, but when i find a size i like, it sticks.
A while ago it was 450x200. But right now I like 450x170-75.
I figure a larger size allows for good detail, but you don't want to stretch out people's forums or make people scroll too much to see forum content. cComrade, that is huge. Some forums back in the day actually had 600 as the forum width. For a signature size, woah. lol
