I know several people here (myself included) are working on custom message board software. As we all work, I'm sure we all have a set of features we want to make sure we include.
So, what do you think are the essential features that every message board should have?
By the way, this question is for everyone, not just those actively coding their own message board/website.

Ok, perhaps "essential" was a bit narrow. Perhaps it should really be "preferred forum features..."

I'd absolutely have to have a pizza maker.
As well as the basic registration system with the ability to create and post in threads. Also I would want to be able to modify and delete my posts, and be able to customize a personal profile which would partly show in all my posts. Having admin capabilities for the administrators would be a must as well so when trolls arrive they can be dealt with.
For the admin side of things, a simple HTML user interface would be nice so I don't have to do everything (creating boards, setting permissions etc) in php/mysql.

What is your preferred way of editing skins? Would you just like direct access to the CSS? I haven't used other forums in a while, so I'm not sure what kind of access they give.

What I will be giving my members is direct access to the HTML where they can easily make a PM bar, change the way boards are displayed, change the CSS etc.. I think it's a nice feature to have (: so all forum systems should have something like that
